Hi Dr, this will be my first time using a vitamin C serum. I recently just purchased Avalon's Organics Vitamin C. Have you heard of it and do you suggest it? And then I follow it with a moisturizer for daytime and night cream for nighttime? Will the vitamin C get rid of the dark spots left from acne scars and such? Basically, how many creams, serums, moisturizer, etc. should I be putting on and in what order? Also do I have to keep the serum in the fridge or can it stay in the bathroom cabinet?

No problem. The palmitate form will not dissolve readily in many cases. Go for a pure L- ascorbic acid powder and it should mix well either in a cream base or a serum. Go for a 15% concentration initially. So 15 grams in about 100 grams of final product. Keep it refrigerated once mixed.

It can be frustrating trying to dissolve this and product from different manufacturers will dissolve differently so once you find your formula stick with the same manufacturer. You can try different cream bases and I have heard of people using cetaphil as a base. That may be a simple solution for you. I still would recommend trying lower doses of L ascorbic acid as I have found superior results with this if used with the correct formulation. Shelf life for AP? likely 12 months in cool storage.

Yes, Vitamin C , particularly in the form of L ascorbic acid has been shown to improve the appearance of uneven skin and helps reverse sun damage. We do see this in clinical practice in those patients using it on a regular basis. Patients will report improvements in as little as 2 weeks and depending on the skin damage, this may take a little longer.

For deeper scars I like to use Co2 lasers for single treatments but there can be 1-2 weeks of downtime. Less ablative lasers can work and have less down time but one would need more sessions are needed. If there is discoloration these lasers will also reduce it. For topicals Niacinamide which is in our advanced firming can work great as can retinoic acids which is in our Night Cream product. Remember that topicals will not give as dramatic result as lasers but are a great adjunct.

This area is very close to the eye. Definitely topicals such as a vitamin C. Sunscreen will help prevent further damage along with the C. A treatment such as Thermage where eye shields are used so this delicate area can be addressed would be the next step. Prevent and prevent again any further skin damage. Maintain your existing collagen and elasticity. Fillers and botox are not good options in this area.
